Superdry is not Japanese

Worth clearing up, because the branding suggests otherwise. Superdry was founded in Cheltenham in England in 2003. The Japanese lettering on the graphics is a design language the founders borrowed after a trip to Tokyo — the company has always been British, and the clothes are cut to a British block.

What they do best

Jackets, without much argument. Superdry built its reputation on outerwear and it is still the strongest part of the range — windcheaters, padded jackets, hooded parkas and the SD-Windtrekker style, generally with better weatherproofing than the price suggests.

The hoodies and sweatshirts are the other pillar. Heavier loopback cotton than most high-street equivalents, which is why they hold shape rather than going shapeless after a season.
