Which Barbour jacket

Waxed — the Bedale, Ashby and Ogston. Genuinely waterproof and windproof, built to be repaired rather than replaced, and better looking at ten years old than at one. Unlined or lightly lined, so wear a jumper under it. Never machine wash or dry clean a wax jacket. Shop wax jackets.

Quilted — the Powell and the Barbour International styles. Lighter and warmer for their weight, easy over a jumper or under a bigger coat, and shower-resistant rather than waterproof. The one most men reach for day to day. Shop quilted jackets.

Waterproof — the Shoveler and the Chelsea. Taped seams and a membrane, for days when wax is not enough and you will be out in it for hours.

Casual — the Cordford and overshirt-weight styles, for dry days and layering.

Sizing

Barbour's country line is cut roomy on purpose, to go over knitwear. Barbour International is slimmer through the body and the chest. If you are between sizes in a wax jacket, take the larger — wax does not give the way cotton does, and you want a jumper to fit underneath.
