Why Ecco fits differently

Ecco has been made in Denmark since 1963 and still owns its own tanneries, so the leather in the shoe was tanned by the same company that made it. The soles are moulded directly onto the upper rather than stitched or glued, which is why an Ecco feels lighter and more flexible out of the box than a traditionally made leather shoe.

Ecco runs generous through the width. If you have a broad foot, or you have given up on leather shoes because they pinch across the ball, this is the first brand to try. If your foot is narrow and you are between sizes, take the smaller one.

Which style

The Byway and Irving lace-ups are the all-rounders. The Metropole and Lite Hybrid slip-ons are the easy option. Byway 2.0, Move and Astir are the leather trainers, and Biom and Exostride are built for real walking. Gore-Tex styles are worth the extra if this is going to be your winter pair.
